Our Adventure:

Embarking on this popular trail, we had the pleasure of experiencing it twice. Our first attempt during the evening golden hour was bustling with people, prompting us to plan a second visit at sunrise. Camping at the free campground added an extra layer of enjoyment to our adventure.

The sunrise excursion granted us exclusive access to the captivating waterfalls, surrounded by serene beauty. The chilly water made for a refreshing swim, so be sure to bring a towel. The pathway leading to the falls can be slippery and muddy, but fear not—there's a fantastic viewing platform for those who prefer to stay dry. Dogs are welcome on-lead, and during our evening stroll, we encountered several pups enjoying the walk.

The trail boasts numerous enchanting streams, weaving through picturesque woods, making it a delightful experience for nature lovers. A standout feature is the dog-friendly waterfalls, making it one of the best we've encountered so far.

Our Rating: 9/10

Point Addis to Anglesea

Distance Covered: 15 km

Time Spent: 2 hours and 30 minutes

Challenge Level: Moderate

Essentials Packed: Walking shoes or trainers, camera, sun cream, sunglasses, hat, day rucksack, water, snacks, and a drone

Parking: Free car park at the walk's starting point for the day

Our Adventure:

Point Addis holds a special place in our hearts, being one of the most captivating beaches in Victoria. Drawn by the allure of a long hike, we returned for a day of exploration. The journey commenced along the renowned Bells Beach, a stretch we had previously conquered from the opposite end. Moving into the woodland on the cliff's other side, the path, although clearly marked, had undergone changes and closures due to unstable cliffs.

The woodland trail, while lacking consistent ocean views, offered glimpses of the majestic coastline. As the path descended, we strolled along the perimeter of a caravan park, leading to a charming little beach. Please note that this beach has dog restrictions from 1st Dec-28th Feb, with no dogs allowed between 9 am-7 pm. Unfortunately, our plans to explore this section were thwarted by an approaching storm, prompting a return journey.

While the walk left us somewhat disappointed, it's important to consider that the time of year may have influenced our experience. Safety closures limited some of the anticipated viewpoints, and it seems they won't be reopening. Despite this, Bells Beach remains a must-explore destination.

Our Rating: 5/10

This trail, though hindered by closures, still provides glimpses of the breathtaking coastal landscape. For those planning their own adventure or seeking a virtual preview, our trail recording on AllTrails offers insights into our journey. Join us on the trails, where each step is an opportunity to discover the beauty of Victoria's coastline.

Our Adventure:

Opting for a quick yet delightful adventure, we embarked on another mini-hike to Point Addis. This time, our exploration was confined to the beach due to time constraints. Nevertheless, the beach proved to be a treasure trove with its rocks and cliffs offering panoramic views. We took advantage of the picturesque surroundings by flying the drone and enjoying a leisurely time by the shore.

Barwon River Loop - Short

Distance Covered: 5.52 km

Time Spent: 1 hour

Challenge Level: Easy

Essentials Packed: Trainers, camera, sun cream, sunglasses, hat, poo bags

Parking: Free parking on streets around the river

Our Adventure:

This walk was a segment of a longer loop spanning 12.7 km. Limited by time during the evening, we opted for a condensed 5 km loop. The route features various bridges, providing convenient options to shorten the walk if needed. The walk showcased a blend of beauty and activity, with hikers, boaters, and dogs contributing to the lively atmosphere.

We particularly enjoyed the woodland side, where Alma could roam off-lead, exploring the rich surroundings filled with scents and sights. On the opposite side, there were more open fields, and the path was predominantly paved. It offered a pleasant city walk in Geelong, providing different atmospheres on each side of the river.

Rating: 6/10

While the walk was beautiful and bustling with activity, the preference for the woodland side influenced our overall rating. For those interested in exploring this city walk in Geelong or planning their own adventure, our trail recording on AllTrails offers insights into this charming riverside excursion.

Marengo to Shelly Beach

Distance Covered: 10.77 km

Time Spent: 3 hours

Challenge Level: Moderate

Essentials Packed: Trainers, camera, sun cream, sunglasses, hat, poop bags, water, snacks, swimming costume

Parking: Free parking at Marengo Beach next to the holiday park

Our Adventure:

Undoubtedly our favorite hike along the Great Ocean Road, this trail offers unparalleled beauty with sweeping hills and miles of ocean walks. Having explored it 4-5 times, each journey unveils new paths and hidden beaches. The abundance of Australian wildlife adds to the enchantment, with sightings of koalas, short-beaked echidnas, and a variety of beautiful birds.

The highlight of our adventure is reaching the bench atop the hill, providing a panoramic view of the vast Great Ocean Road. The journey involves hiking from the beach through a charming woodland walk. Descending the hill, we veer off the main path to the left, following a smaller trail leading back down to the beach below. We continue along the beaches, eventually reaching Shelly Beach.

A crucial tip is to check the tide times; aiming for low tide allows for a delightful beach hike. However, high tide offers alternative grassy paths. Summer hikers should be mindful of grass seeds, as they can be abundant. Ensure to check temperatures before embarking, as shade is limited along the route, and it can get quite hot.

Rating: 10/10

This hike, with its stunning views, diverse wildlife, and varied terrain, earns a perfect score. For those planning their own adventure or seeking a virtual preview, our trail recording on AllTrails captures the essence of this memorable Great Ocean Road experience.
